Welcome to the Haidong Gumdo®

“The true principles of Haidong Gumdo® is to execute justice with the sword light, that is obtained at the break of day from majestic and brilliant sunlight that glows over the East Sea.”

Our aim is to deliver and teach the unique traditional Korean Sword martial art Haidong Gumdo® throughout the Canada and North America.

The Way of the Sword

Haidong Gumdo is a traditional Korean Sword Martial Art that can be enjoyed by anyone.  The training provides a combination of physical and mental exercise that ultimately produces a stronger mind and body.

It is a dynamic art and students can expect to practice basic movements, forms, sparring and when ready progress onto using a 'real' sword - all in a controlled, safe and regulated environment.

The Haidong Gumdo community is thriving and the worldwide network meet to compete and train together on a rotating international programme. often

However, words cannot really do a martial art justice.

Come and judge for yourself.

Friday classes are held on average three times a month,  due to our current shifts and work commitments, and normally last for one hour at the Dojang. There are a number of ways for you to keep up-to-date with the dates and times of our forthcoming classes.

You can view our classes as events on our Facebook page and we also have our own public Google Calendar that you may subscribe to if you wish. Classes can range from one hour to two hours in duration.

Note: if possible try to turn up about 10 minutes earlier to give yourself time to get changed and make sure you have something to drink with you, preferably water.

These guidelines have been written to help you to get the most from your training and to assist you in your first few lessons as to what is expected of you as students.

For all martial arts practiced in the Dojang (training hall) it is expected that good manners and respect must be shown to each other and to the instructors.

It is also expected that students maintain themselves and their equipment and Dobok (uniforms) in a smart and clean manner.

If you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of your training then please do not hesitate to speak to any of our black belt instructors.
